BTS

For quick access, this is a compilation of posts in this blog that are focused on the Music Group from South Korea, Bangtan Sonyeondan, known worldwide as BTS. The Group is composed of seven young men: Rap Monster, or "RM", whose real name is Kim Nam-joon, Kim Seok-jin or "Jin", SUGA (short for shooting guard, his position in basketball) whose real name is Min Yoon-gi, J-Hope (also known as Hobi) whose real name is Jung Ho-seok, Park Jimin, V whose real name is Kim Tae-hyung and Jeon Jung-kook more commonly known as JK, and sometimes, "Kookie".

This is my first post that is focused on BTS, and it was posted on 16 January 2022.  Although I've been a fan since 2019... or even before that, because of my work, I was unable to post about them then before this. As you may noticed, ever since I became Dean of the Faculty of Engineering of UST in November 2012, I slowed down in my blogging.  At some point, I hardly ever posted anything.  Anyway, it was BTS that got me back to blogging actively again since January 2022.

This is mostly about their collaboration with Cold Play in the song, "My Universe", and about the dance break for their song, "Butter".  The said dance break was performed by J-Hope, Jimin and JK, or the "3Js" - the main dancers of the Group.

This featured a video on YouTube that showcased them singing "Dynamite" and "Butter" live in their "Permission to Dance on Stage - Los Angeles". This was posted in March 2022 -  the time when I was emotionally preparing to watch "Permission to Dance on Stage - Las Vegas", which I was scheduled to watch live in Las Vegas in April 2022.  So, I kept watching footages of their previous live concerts to get me in the 'live concert mode' while beating deadlines for my Humphrey Fellowship at Penn State.

I'm a sucker for pre-Dynamite BTS songs.  I a m just so into the angsty and powerful singing and energetic dancing that they used to do in their old songs.  In my humble opinion, "Dynamite" turned them into very 'mainstream' pop music act... and the song sounded too 'commercial' for me.  It took me a while to come to terms with that.  But, whenever I have the opportunity, I still listen more to their old songs.  This post features, "Danger", which is one of my favorite early BTS songs.

This is about the invitation to BTS to meet with the President of the United States of America (USA), Pres. Joe Biden, in their capacity as Youth Ambassadors through the United Nations, and South Korea's Special Presidential Envoy for Future Generations and Culture.  The invitation was extended by Pres. Biden to engage BTS in the fight against Asian Hate Crimes in celebration of the Asian American Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islanders Heritage (AANHPIH) month for 2022.
