Wednesday nostalgia...

...outside, looking in.

by Philipina A. Marcelo

Gin Blossoms... they crept into the airwaves in the late '80s, hit it big in the '90s, and they're one of the bands that left a mark in my '90s memories with songs like "Hey, jealousy", "Allison Road", "Found out about you" and "Follow you down". And when I finally became financially independent, brave enough to unreasonably spend "serious money" on records (hehe...), theirs was one of the first few I bought. "New Miserable Experience" was the first Gin Blossoms album I bought in the early '90s. And I patiently waited for what seemed like a long time to sing "29" with feelings...

"There's no intentions worthy of mention if you never tried. So hang your hopes on rusted-out hinges, take 'em for a ride ...only time will tell if wishing wells can bring us anything...."

...and when I was finally "old enough" to sing it with "meaningful feelings", hmm, it felt absolutely wonderful! :) Ah,
"The past is gone but something
might be found to take its place..."
time flies... now, I wish I was still waiting for 29. But "time won't stand by forever"... I know that now.

In November 2010, my sister and I had a fantastic time catching the band from Tempe, Arizona via "Gin Blossoms Live in Manila" at the Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City, Philippines - yes, LIVE! They sounded almost the same as in the late '80s and early '90s. Their music was as beautiful as ever, they made me want to cry! And, we sang along happily with them as they rummaged through their old and not-so-old hits. Of course, "'Til I hear it from you" made me feel warm with nostalgia... and it felt quite right as well. :)

"I didn't ask, they shouldn't have told me..."
