| Sunset and evening star... ...and may there be no sadness of farewell when I embark. |
As I join the football world in mourning the passing of Tito Vilanova, former FC Barcelona Manager/Head Coach, I got reminded of a poem from High School days. Here goes....
Crossing the Bar
by Alfred, Lord Tennyson
Sunset and evening star,
And one clear call for me!
And may there be no moaning of the bar,
When I put out to sea,
But such a tide as moving seems asleep,
Too full for sound and foam,
When that which drew from out the boundless deep
Turns again home.
Twilight and evening bell,
And after that the dark!
And may there be no sadness of farewell,
When I embark;
For tho' from out our bourne of Time and Place
The flood may bear me far,
I hope to see my Pilot face to face
When I have crost the bar.
While the ball will keep rolling on the meticulously manicured pitch, guided by gracefully moving players in an orchestrated move conjured by their master tactician who is thoughtfully watching from the touchline - all 'servants' of the beautiful game, the blaugrana crowd will continue to cheer... cheer their men to victory. And yet, in the fullness of their blaugrana hearts, there will always be a tiny gap somewhere... that little but all-important space you used to fill with your reassuring physical presence.
You will be missed, Tito!
You will be missed, Tito!
